You make a good point here, but sometimes things are not so binary in nature so as to be either a 1 or a 0.

For example, would you consider IP voice and video conferencing to be classified as products, or distribution?

I had some views on the efficacy of satellite communications in AOL's IP world, over in the last mile thread. Without getting overly McLuhanesque about this, I'd be happy to hear more of your views on the topic.
