The Financial Post reports in a feature article in its Tuesday edition that Bid.Com International is riding the Net fever. Reporter Michael Lewis says that Canadian Internet auction firm has not yet turned a profit, but the market is not deterred and is rushing to the stock. After months in the market wilderness, the Mississauga, Ontario-based company has caught fire, with its share price quadrupling in less than three weeks on optimism that online auctioneers will thrive this holiday season. Share volume last month routinely outpaced such corporate heavy hitters as BCE and Imasco, representing almost a complete turnover of Bid.Com's outstanding common stock. On Monday, 14 million more shares traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Co-founder Paul Godin says that Bid.Com, which lost $8-million in the first half of 1998, should post revenue of $20-million this year and $50-million in 1999. He expects the company to be profitable by the third quarter of next year.
