The Democrats have needed a leader for 5 years. We are rudderless.

Maybe we can look at Obama as a Democratic president for once, instead of as a Black president. I think liberal Dems have earned that trust.

The problem is that the Democratic leader fighting the Republicans should be Obama, but he has never seemed to want the job. I am not sure he even likes Dems all that much. There is a lot of tension between Obama and the Dems. It is a quiet tension because the dems wish to remain respectful to the African American community.

But Obama seemed to get along better with Bush than Pelosi. There is a lot of tension between those two, but it is quiet, as both are professionals. Same with our de facto Dem leaders in the congress.

And there is a lot of irony here. The pubs have been wanting a fight with Obama from the start, but Obama never seemed to want a fight with the pubs. He was fighting more with the Dems e.g. his early statement "Dems should stop whining" echoed by Rahm and Gibbs.

The tension between Obama and the dems started almost from the beginning.

The Dems had to pressure Obama to NOT appoint Brennan as CIA chief in 08 because of his connection with Bush and the Bush torture machine, so Obama backed off. But then 5 years later Obama went at it again and got Brennan appointed. Obama already knew the Dem leadership did not want him. But he did not respect their wishes.

Three liberal Dems leaders right now are raising hell over Brennan. So the tension rises again.

This also happened with Summer's. Obama knew the Dems did not want Summer's in the fed, but he floated rumors he was going to appoint him and it forced 21 Dems to sign a letter to Obama telling him if he appointed him they would join the pubs to defeat him. Obama should never have forced the Dems to sign that letter.

Same with Geithner, whom protected the bankers and plutocrats. So the guilty plutocrats were never prosecuted, or the torturers. This created more tension between the Dems and Obama.

So we never had a situation where Obama assumed the leadership of the Dem party and we have been floundering ever since e.g. the travesty in 2010.

During the Gilded age, TR lead the progressives to defeat the plutocrats and again in the 30's FDR lead the Dems to defeat the plutocrats and pubs. JFK and especially Bobby were on their way to leading the Dems once again.

So we Dems continue to search for a leader. Can Hillary fill that role? Most lefty;s I know prefers Warren to Hillary which tells the story there.
