OPEC 1 was cuz we helped Israel in the Yom Kippur War. Carter 2 was cuz we gave sanctuary to the Shah of Iran, back when the embassy was seized. There are stories that raygun (bush) blocked the release of hostages for political gain. Allegations that the Reagan administration negotiated a delay in the release of the hostages until after the 1980 Presidential election have been numerous. Gary Sick, principal White House aide for Iran and the Persian Gulf on the Carter administration’s National Security Council, in his book "October Surprise: America's Hostages in Iran and the Election of Ronald Reagan", [131] alleged that William Casey and possibly George H.
