The object of the game is not to predict correctly if there will or will not be a cut nor how much the cut will be, but rather to be the only one of note making the prediction. After the event, expected by the majority occurs, no one will remember or care that their predictions were right. Only those who predict something like no cut or an increase, or a cut of 75 basis points will be accorded a moment of fame.

The FED almost never makes a single move in one direction. So while they may cut 50 b.p. the odds favor a smaller .25 cut to start the change towards lower short term rates with other cuts to follow. One could even speculate that the talk of a 50 b.p. cut is designed or encouraged by the FED, to help disappoint the equity market to keep it from, "excessive exuberance", when the cut does not match expectations.

That said, I don't see why so much attention is being given to this subject on this board. My excuse is that this silly stuff used to be of importance to me in a past life. <g>
