Not sure I agree on that. In many parts of rural America practically everyone is armed, and in most of these areas free speech is taken very seriously indeed. I live outside of the US now, but I know how my neck of the woods there is. If someone like Emile started hatemongering there, he might well get his lights punched out - probably by a non-Jew - but he wouldn't get shot. If he took one millimetric step across the line that separates speech from action, though, that could change very quickly. And it would be the same if he were ranting about Arabs, Blacks, Asians, or anyone else.

I once heard an old fellow tell someone "your right to swing your fist in the air ends where the tip of my nose begins". All rights are similarly constrained, and to keep those rights alive we have to maintain awareness of those constraints.

I didn't mean that everyone should be required to own a gun. But once that training - and what I have in mind is real training - is obtained, I think a case could be made for an obligation to be prepared to use the training if required.
