Imation new 8gb Travan Vs. Imoega's new Ditto Max:

Transfer Rate of Imation 8gb 1.25 Megabytes per second
Transfer Rate of Ditto 10gb 3.15 Megabytes per second (nearly three times faster - even the current Ditto is 2 Megabytes per second - faster than the new Travan)

Cost of 8gb Tapes $49.95, no cost of new Travan listed (if it's cost is relative to the current price it will equal or exceed Ditto Max)
Cost of 10gb Ditto Max Tapes $35.00, cost of Ditto Drive $299

Iomega states that the new Sony/Iomega 10GB Ditto Max will back up 1GB in about 30 minutes. The same process would take the new Travan 8GB drive about 1.5 hours or more.

Ditto Max will be available in the 4th quarter
Travan 8gb will be available (they hope) in the 3rd quarter

Given that the current Iomega/Sony Ditto backs up information faster than the current Travan Drives and costs less per disk and drive, it is possible that Ditto is capturing some of this market from informed information operations specialists at businesses. Imation stated that they had shipped 6 million Travan Drives from August 96 to date. As the Ditto is capturing an increasing portion of this market, it is possible that this will be reflected in the stock price once known
