<< You are right that Elian is suffering from a backlash against immigrants in this country. >>

But, most don't want to admit to it. So, they say that the Cubans, or the Chinese, or the Seminoles, etc. are mafiosa and evil. Most of my friends wish ALL of the Cubans would go back. They hate listening to the Spanish language. We don't even discuss the Elian incident, because of their prejudice against Latinos.

<< I also think that people are sincere in their belief that the boy needs his father. Although I am not so sure about the sincerity of all the posters on this board in that regard. >>

There are too many fathers missing from their childrens' lives. The Miami Cubans wanted to reunite father and son under the shadow of American freedom. That is obviously what they were trying to do. The Miami Cubans NEVER wanted to keep Juan from his son. They only were trying to get the ENTIRE family to freedom. They were/are a little naive. Castro (and the U.S.) would never permit this to happen.

<< Oddly enough, a great many people who are in favor of the boy returning to Cuba are the first to scream bloody murder when as much as a proposal to curtail a freedom is mentioned much less carried out. >>

I am amazed at black leadership, for not being totally supportive of Elian's freedom. Black leadership has been fighting for freedom for years...... freedom from racial profiling, freedom to eat at a lunch counter, freedom to drink at any water fountain, freedom to vote, freedom to continue to sit in a bus seat, when a white man wants to sit down. But, when it comes to another race's freedom, they want to deny. I don't get it?!

<< sorry to get back to you so late with this ... >>

Too late! I have already called your boss, and you will be docked a half days pay for being late with your response! <g>
