I have not read any of your posts here on SI until the last few days, but am gathering over that time that you may fall into the category that most leftists do (if my first impression is faulty, then I will apologize later).
I believe the most common character trait of the left is the proclivity to define what is appropriate for others, and then (unfortunately) use the law and the justice system to make those haphazard, arrogantly subjective definitions a part of American law.
Free will is one of man's most precious God-given gifts. And it is nothing short of arrogance for another man to attempt to handcuff a man's free will, other than as it proves dangerous or harms the freedom of others.
Americans who practice personal responsibility should have the ability to keep and bear whatever arms they want. And Americans who do not practice personal responsibility, and use their weapons irresponsibly to the detriment of others, should face stark, life-altering consequences.
The only way to foster personal responsibility (which must go hand-in-hand with free will) is to severely punish those who don't choose to be responsible. It is leftists who are prone to be soft on crime, wringing their hands about the severity of punishments, thereby encouraging lack of responsibility for one's actions. And yet they want to handcuff responsible citizens because of the crimes they might commit. You can't have it both ways -- not when individual liberty is at stake.
I am tired of left-leaning bureaucrats and would-be tyrants defining how wealthy is too wealthy, what kind of arms are too dangerous for the citizen to own, how much of my hard-earned money I am allowed to keep, and a fast-growing mountain of other man-on-fellow-man oppressive restrictions that would curl the hair of our Founders. |
