Kerry to accept Democratic nomination at convention By William L. Watts
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) -- Presidential candidate John Kerry announced Wednesday that he will accept the Democratic nomination at his party's convention in July, ending speculation he might delay formally accepting his party's endorsement. "On Thursday, July 29, with great pride, I will accept my party's nomination for president in the city of Boston. From there we will begin our journey to a new America," Kerry said, in a statement. Kerry last week floated the idea of delaying his acceptance of the nomination into September in a bid to level the general election financial playing field with President Bush. Both candidates plan to accept around $75 million in federal matching funds for use in the general election. Under federal rules, a candidate can use only the matching funds after accepting the nomination. Bush will accept the GOP nomination five weeks after Kerry accepts the Democratic nomination.
