Not true, at least in the practical sense of what happens in American schools.

There is the ideal of, learning for the sake of learning (growth as a goal in and of itself). There is reality where goals of the curriculum are attached to agenda driven circumstances. Ask any student beyond the sixth grade if they ever feel things are being forced on them that are not part of someone elses agenda.

If you want to pursue learning simply for the sake of growth, public schools are the last place to go. Indoctrination is one of those handy words that the other side likes to use when labeling the issues that support your agenda and vice versa. Its sort of like the anti-clintonites labeling your side as clintonistas and your side labeling the Repubs liars and hypocrites. Unresolvable issue but handy jargon when in the midst of the fray.

If you have a bias free educational curriculum that works for all of the children of all of the citizens of America, I'd love to see it.
