I wonder why these companies are using Mpact when
Ziva has better video? The only reasons I can think of are:


All true MPEG decoders produce the same output. It's
how you display it that makes the difference. Neither
Zitva or Mpact do the display work (de-interlacing) for
VGA displays. It is the Graphics controller (S3, ATI) which
does this (including color space conversion and scaling).

1. CUBE pissed off some companies.

Well that certainly would NOT be breaking with tradition. But, no.

2. We're being sandbagged.

No, Zitva is being difficult to price, integrate, solve their
numerous bugs.

3. Toshiba offers a cheap price for DVD-ROM drives if you buy them with Mpact.

No. Toshiba drives don't ship with every system.

4. Mpact comes with graphics capabilities, so you don't need a separate graphics card. This is advertised, but I do not know if it is currently tr

The MPACT cards in the Compaq & Gateway machines do not use
Mpact's native RAMDAC.
