Out walking the dog tonight and looked at some Obama campaign signs. Nothing on the signs indicate which party he is aligned with.

He doesn't want to be associated with them. They're old school, not cool like him.

The only logo is the Obama coat of arms

It is actually much more like a Japanese mon, the round symbols of various noble clans that were used to decorate kimonos and many other objects. The best known mon is three chrysanthemums in a circle, which is the symbol of the Japanese Emperor's house.

From a purely visual standpoint, the Obama campaign is fascinating. He's got all these young people pulling in all these snazzy graphic ideas without any clue of how they were used before or what overtones they might carry. Lots of the Obama posters clearly hark back Soviet or Nazi predecessors. The Soviet and Nazi graphic designers of the 30s were top notch, and that's all the kids can see.

Ditto for the Japanese mon influence (a natural when your candidate's name begins with 'O'). The ersatz Presidential seal was pretty cool looking, rather reminiscent of the eagle of FDR's New Deal Works Administration (also 30s design), even to adding a Latin "Vero Possimus" motto. Hey, I give brownie points for using Latin. But the poor kids had no idea why it wasn't a bright idea to put an ersatz Presidential seal in front of their candidate. It looked cool, after all...
