Nortel (Northern Telecom) to Demonstrate Industry's First Integrated Wireline and Wireless Text Messaging
ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Nortel (Northern Telecom) (NYSE: NT - news) is helping consumers improve their communications effectiveness with a new simultaneous text messaging capability that delivers a text message to the home, office and even to a wireless PCS phone -- all at the same time.
For example, with the new enhanced capability, consumers will now have the power to receive silent messages wherever they are. Instead of hearing a disruptive telephone ring during a meeting, now consumers can receive real-time text messages on a screen phone -- in or out of the office and continue to be productive.
Now for the first time, Nortel will publicly demonstrate the power of this new simultaneous text messaging capability. Asserting its leadership in the convergence of wireless and wireline networks and services, Nortel will demonstrate the industry's first delivery of integrated text messages simultaneously to wireless and wireline text message compatible phones. The demonstration will occur at the upcoming CDMA North American Regional Congress Conference in Orlando, December 2-4 at booth 19.
Utilizing Nortel's existing DMS-100 Wireless Integrated Switching System, the demonstration will show the integration of two services -- Short Message Service (SMS) for wireless networks and Analog Display Services Interface (ADSI) for wireline networks.
For example, end-users could view stock quotes, sports scores, and The Weather Channel (five-day forecast and current conditions) anywhere -- whether they are using an ADSI phone or a wireless PCS phone. These services are made possible through such companies as WolfeTech Corporation, an information services provider.
''Nortel's DMS family of switches help our customers leverage their network investment by delivering revenue-generating services, such as wireless capabilities, said Clarence Chandran, president, Public Carrier Networks, Nortel. ''With the new and innovative advances in our DMS switches, service providers will be able to provide end-users with information anywhere -- a message won't be missed with Nortel's integrated simultaneous messaging capability.
Nortel works with customers worldwide to design, build, and integrate digital networks -- for information, entertainment, education, and business -- offering one of the broadest choices of network solutions in the industry. |
