Microsoft, Department of Treasury To Help
Kick Off EFTA 1998 Member Summit Series

HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge Corporation -- Top electronic
payment system specialists are helping the Electronic Funds Transfer Association
(EFTA) open its series of three industry conferences later this month.
The first of the three summits, "Shaping the Future of Electronic Payments," will be held
March 19 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in McLean, Va., near our nation's capital.
Headlining the list of speakers will be CheckFree Senior Vice President Matt Lewis,
discussing ways to diminish the ever-increasing amount of paper in the payment
process. Presenting the government's perspective on an array of EFT issues, from EFT
'99 to EBT, is the Treasury Department and the Department of Agriculture's Food and
Nutrition Services.
"EFTA continues the tradition of providing executives and senior-level managers in the
electronic payments industry access to the most current strategic, legislative and
regulatory information," said H. Kurt Helwig, executive director of EFTA.
Additional EFTA Summit speakers represent organizations and agencies including
Microsoft Corp., Chase Manhattan Bank, the Federal Reserve System, and the Food
Marketing Institute, as well emerging technology companies like Integrion and
CyberCash.
Topics to be covered at the meeting also include the "electronification " of checks, the
real costs of offering home banking, the future of electronic benefits transfer, and
electronic bill payment and presentment.
Following this conference, Summit sessions are also set for June 18 and September 30 at
the Ritz-Carlton in McLean, Va.
EFTA, now entering its third decade, is the nation's leading inter-industry trade
association dedicated to the advancement of electronic payment systems and
