Hi Paul,

I bot my original shares in the early 90's . I had sole Altria a few years back but still have Kraft. PM was about my 3rd largest position. Think I caught it near the top around 103. I typically sell very little og stocks that do well but was getting very nervous about the regulatory climate and the growth of debt. I never have smoked and have had 3 friends die from lung cancer. I might reestablish a much smaller position if it retreats further. With some of the "sin" stocks, you go through spells of greater taxation and regulatory scrutiny. PM just sells non domestic but have heard rumors of them and altria rejoining - pure speculation form analysts in light of the other merger just announced.

There was a cycle too, in which everyone thought that consumers would just but "plain label" stuff and that tanked all the Big Brands including tobacco, KO, PG etc. When you go through so many cycles, you get used to the sector rotation, but you have to be on the lookout for the fundamentals changing.

I've never owned VGR and usually stick with the industry leader or #2, but sometimes the smaller players turn out well especially if they get bought out. I get burned more often than not when I stretch for yield because often the market is telling you something. Also depends on what is your core positions and what is play / spec money.
