"It was the Brits......I just read the quote again in a recent article."

Yup. And not only did they sound like us, they also started to remold Iraq in a similar way as we are doing now. Two big differences, though. One, they didn't have a civil war like we are seeing now. Two, and it might be related, the Brits brought in 1 British subject for every 19 Iraqis. We have a ratio of 1 to 179...

In fact, it was them who put together the unholy alliance of Kurds, Shia and Sunni.

Niall made an interesting observation. He went to DC in the early days of the planning for Iraq. No one he talked to knew about the British experience in Iraq. He asked one planner what model they were using for reconstructing Iraq. The planner told him the model was the banking system of post-communist Poland...

What is this Polish connection? Its Poland where they spent hundreds of millions to buy 25 year old weaponry that doesn't work very well.

However, I do understand why they chose Poland's economic model. Poland was the one E. European company that chose to take the painful route of endorsing free markets openly and completely in one fell swoop, and their markets are even more free than those in the US. It's politics also are very conservative like the neocon's. Unfortunately, the past 5 years have not been very kind to the Polish model.
