Aye, and there's the rub - alleged terrorism. According to reports in even relatively RW media here, an allegation of terrorism - or association with some - is what is presumably behind disappearances which amount to detention without trial, representation or appeal. Nor are such arrests even answerable.

I haven't been bothered by the wiretapping but I am bothered by the detentions. I've been willing to cut the Administration some slack because we were caught flat-footed both on intel and legal mechanisms and they took a better-safe-than-sorry approach. It seems like they've made an effort to investigate and make a determination on all those that they detained. I'm sure it took a while to sort through what they had. The primary concern I had was their unwillingness to acknowledge who was being detained rather than that the detentions occurred. I will be more concerned if we continue to detain people "on suspicion" going forward.
