The reason that the stock is not running like last year is that investors have a long memory. Once burned they go slowly. If the Sudan calms down politically, Arakis will get a deal this year IMO. You don't have to lose all your money on calls. You have to have a "roll over" strategy that will minimize your loss. I agree that AKSEF calls (or the stock) are a simple "bet" though. Short term prices don't mean much because it all depends on a pipeline deal. When oil is flowing the stock will bring between $40 - $120 IMO
