No, I'm just a developer. I don't have any particular allegiance to any given company, OS, language, or platform. I use what works. I have worked with UNIX, but my strongest platform by far are the Wintel ones. Why? I guess that was what was available when I was a teenager, and wanted to program (actually I started on Commodors, but that was kind of a dead end). I did some programming in UNIX in university, and continue to in my current job.
I'm just trying to learn here. It is hard to find people with a good understanding of OS fundamentals. I thought you might be someone who does. That is why I asked you to explain some of you statements. I was not saying they were all wrong, just that they were not backed up with an explaination. If HAL is a marketing bull, tell me why. Give me a couple examples of why NTFS is inadiquate.
When I look at the computer industry I see NT as a proven OS for desktop, and workstations use. It is already moving in on traditional UNIX turf in the financial, and graphics arenas. I also see it as a proven midrange application, and database server. Also traditional UNIX markets. The question in my mind is, can it do more? I don't know, but I want to find out. I will not, however, base my decision on the opinion that contains the most exclaimation marks. The goal here, after all, is to pick wise investments.
