Historically speaking, the Catholic Church (and Mel Gibson is Catholic) certainly was anti-Semitic, the Protestant sects much less so. The roots are still there, so it's not surprising to see the occasional blossom. If Mel GIbson is not aware of the historical relationship between the Catholic Church and the Jews, he needs to do some background reading. {Edit: as for Christianity being inherently anti-Semitic, there is support in the Bible for that position - though I would say the Church and Kings used anti-Semitism for more political reasons. If you read just the words of Jesus, though, you will not find any anti-Semitism there)
