Paul,

By coincidence today's WSJ reports that National Semiconductor is forming a new unit, Fairchild Semiconductor, to handle it's older, lower-profit lines. This unit may end up being sold or spun off.

Hearing the name Fairchild brings back fond memories of buying parts to make a transistor radio back when I was kid in '64. Back then, transistors came in a little can the size of a pencil eraser, with three wires sticking out. My radio used three of them...how times have changed!
