From today's WSJ:

Toyota Unit Discusses Flat-Panel Display

Sony Corp. said it is in discussions with a Toyota Motor Corp.
unit to establish a joint venture to make a new generation of
flat-panel display screens. Sony said it hasn't reached
agreement with the subsidiary, Toyoda Automatic Loom Works
Ltd., which makes heavy equipment, batteries and low-end
semiconductors. Sony said the discussions center on
establishing a factory to make polysilicon TFT-LCDs, or
thin-film transistor liquid-crystal displays. Such displays
promise to be larger and cheaper to make than today's screens,
and should offer higher resolution than conventional flat-panel
displays, Sony said. Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan's leading
business daily, said Sony and Toyoda would invest 50 billion
yen to 60 billion yen (about $430 million to $520 million) in a
factory in Japan's Aichi Prefecture.
