In brief By 2050, wind and solar power will provide almost half the world’s electricity, Bloomberg New Energy Finance projected this week in its New Energy Outlook 2019 report.

Coal power is expected to keep growing until 2026, however, driven by continued growth in Asia. Even there, though, coal-fired generation is projected to start declining from around 2030.
