Well its all good that you feel so separated by your vantage from seeing any connection to a Mao , Stalin etc but the real question would be objectively how would you have been had you been born into that culture , what moral agency inside of you would have prevented you from joining in too , being only human ?

Easy to moralize & point to your local heros on white stallions or messiahs but the point is every other bloke in their society is doing that too. Also this is an old tired & worn out thing , you fill in the names of those u wish to downgrade & place an equal sign to those despots fulfilling your agenda . Who would you have been had you been born there , we are shaped by our cultures is all the point i make from historical evolutionary pov .

Those numbers dead are part of that explosion of killing techniques that were developed rapid fire from Romans down to medieval Europe to modern day , men got very good at mass lethal killing , just another point about the way things evolve . Something divine at work here or nature ?
