OTTAWA, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Corel Corporation (Nasdaq-NNM: COSFF; Toronto: COS), an award-winning developer and marketer of productivity applications, graphics and multimedia software, has raced out of the gates to become the leader in retail office suite sales in the United States. Only five months after finalizing an agreement with Novell that catapulted them into the field of productivity applications, Corel's office suites have leapt out in front of Microsoft's as the most popular on the retail market.
Based on unit sales at the retail level for MS DOS, Windows(R) and Windows(R) 95 as compiled by PC Data, Corel's share of the office suite market stands at 50.9 per cent, with Microsoft coming in at 44.7 percent and Lotus trailing at 4.3 percent.
"The power, value and Internet connectivity of our Corel WordPerfect Suite has made it the best selling office suite at the retail level in the United States," said Dr. Michael Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation. "With the release this week of our professional version, Corel Office Professional 7, we expect our sales momentum to get even stronger in the office suite market."
