Newly merged JDS Uniphase spreads Plus other dispatches from Hambrecht & Quist conference

JDS Uniphase (UNPH: news, msgs) CEO Kevin Kalkhoven said the company is in 15 sites in eight countries and said no customer is greater than 13 percent of its revenue. Tony Muller, CFO, said the merger of JDS FEITEL and Uniphase -- announced in January -- is expected to close on or before June 30, pending SEC approval. The merger, Muller said, will be accounted for as a purchase. Muller added that Kalkhoven will remain as CEO and JDS' Jozef Straus will take over the role as president and chief operating officer
David French, chief executive officer of Cirrus Logic, said he is enthusiastic about the company's prospects as it nears completion of its restructuring. French expects the task, which began last September, to be completed in the first quarter, he told the Hambrecht & Quist technology conference on Wednesday. The company, which designs advanced integrated circuits, has spun off some units and reduced its workforce by 400 to date. French also said Cirrus (CRUS: news, msgs) will bring its new 3Ci chip to production in the second half of this year. |
