That has been my traditional approach too .. trade for capital gains within RRSP so that investment decisions were just that .. not taxation decisions. Foreign content rules made me want to build up a portfolio outside of RRSP as was investing heavily in US technology stocks. Also foreign mutual funds. Since `91 have averaged about 32.5% compound annual growth rate, but this year I will be happy to settle for 12%. Mike I never considered just taking the 1% penalty, but I will look at it now.
