GA,
Here's a similar question with a slight twist....

If a man lives what he truly believes to be a good and moral life, but it is contrary to what one or another of the "major" religions, will God punish him?

As an example, let's use Ghandi. Here is a man who lived a genuinely
good life, putting others ahead of himself, doing good works, and living according to how he believed God wanted him to live. Is he to be punished by burning eternally in hell because he was not a follower
of a Judeo-Christian God?
