TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1997--Burr-Brown Corporation
(NASDAQ:BBRC) today announced the PCM1716, the industry's best price to performance audio
digital-to-analog converter (DAC) designed for consumer and professional audio applications.

PCM1716 is targeted for a wide range of high volume, high performance audio applications which
demand 96kHz sampling rates with 24-bit audio data such as DVD (digital versatile disc) players,
music instruments, surround sound processors, multi-channel home theater systems, and other digital
signal processor (DSP)-based audio systems. This new standard of 96kHz and 24 bits produces
more lifelike sound tracks in entertainment systems.

The emergence of DVD technology as a rapidly growing segment in the consumer electronics
industry will further accelerate the demand for systems which incorporate the PCM1716. The
Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association (CEMA) recently estimated that sales of DVD
players will reach one million units during 1998, an increase of over 150% from 1997 sales.
Acceptance of DVD technology, which offers consumers superior images and cd-quality sound, has
been more rapid than initial sales of either the videocassette recorder (VCR) or compact disc (CD)
player.

"The PCM1716 is a dynamic addition to our growing portfolio of high performance audio products.
It offers customers 106dB dynamic range for under $3.00 which is the best price/performance ratio
of any 24-bit, 96kHz audio DAC on the market," said Mike Centorino, audio product marketing
manager at Burr-Brown. "The PCM1716, coupled with our other audio specific products, allows
Burr-Brown to provide the designer with a complete audio system solution."

PCM1716 features a newly developed "enhanced multi-level delta-sigma modulator" architecture
that improves audio dynamic performance and reduces jitter sensitivity in audio applications,
resulting in higher performance. PCM1716's internal digital filter operates at 8x oversampling at a
96kHz sampling rate with two selectable roll-off performances: sharp roll-off and slow roll-off.
Special functions include digital de-emphasis, left and right independent digital attenuation, soft mute,
zero detect mute, zero flag, and reversible output phase.

PCM1716 accepts 16/20/24-bit input data formats and can be used with a variety of audio clocks.
In addition, the PCM1716 processes 24 bits internally and has single-ended analog outputs, thereby
reducing the amount of external components required in an audio system. PCM1716 is packaged in
a small 28-pin SSOP and priced at $2.88 in 10,000s. Delivery is from stock.
