I've posted a lot about inflation being "structural" and how that inevitability in the outcome we see now was created by adopting mercantilist trade structures all populated by monopolies...

A closer view of one point of friction, today, in the specific... where schemes enabling "just in time" delivery flows suddenly become "just out of space" storage problems...

US Class I Railroads To Feds: Don't Blame Us

The function, as experienced, is not much different in impact than the rush for the exits when someone yells "fire" in a crowded theater...

Only, the article suggests it is a function of congestion at choke-points... when the reality is the congestion is more systemic... the slowdowns pervade the entire system... but simply meets up at the transportation choke-points... as the natural point of aggregation... when everyone in the chain is trying to make the problem that exists with slowed flow... into "the other guys problem".

I predicted this as the failure mode of "just in time" adoption... back as it was a new idea just being adopted ?

JIT isn't an independent variable... obviously... but, is both the origin of and dependent upon the "structure" of the market... narrowly in origin of transportation bottlenecks... broadly in the dependence on the restructuring of the economy into mercantilist / monopolist control of trade.
