Pawlenty not McCain's pick

ST. PAUL – Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty will not be John McCain's running mate.

The Republican governor told Minneapolis' WCCO radio this morning that he would host his weekly radio show from the Minnesota State Fair instead of being in Dayton, Ohio, where the Republican presidential candidate this morning is to appear with his newly selected vice presidential candidate.

In an early-morning telephone interview with WCCO political reporter Eric Eskola, Pawlenty said he will conduct his radio show, which means he will not be in Dayton, where McCain's campaign said the candidate will appear with his vice presidential selection. When Eskola asked if that meant he would not be on the ticket, Pawlenty replied: "That is a fair assumption."
