in that vein...here's a paragraph from the SSB report: "Optical Component Stocks Likely To See Some Support From This Earnings Release. JDSU is one of the bellwethers in the photonic space. The strong report from the company as well as the increased guidance should help restore some of the confidence in the sector. Given investors largely ignored the impressive earnings report out of New Focus (NUFO--Not rated) on Wednesday, we expect a gradual recovery and not a near-term snap-back to prior levels. Moreover, we think the impact from Nortel’s 3Q release is likely to take a few months for investors to chew through, keeping aggressive momentum psychology in check and placing a near-term overhang on the sector."
