It's not Ellison's eccentric interests that bother me; it's his need to gaudily display them to rest of us.

There's no question that Ellison has been fabulously successful. However, for some people, too much success can be a corrupting influence. I don't think Gates or Grove have that problem; I think Ellison does.

Having said that, I'll reiterate that I know next to nothing about Oracle.

I like your argument about the influence the NC has had on the sub-$1000 computer. I think McNealy and Sun deserve some credit as well.
