You make a very good analysis. I did not read much into the increase in inventory. I thought it could be due to ordinary fluctuations that can occur on a quarterly basis. Or rather an increase in the volume of production of one of their more expensive products.

However, if this increase occurs in the next quarter, I would consider it suspect. I have to admit that I am not familiar with what the inventory numbers were prior to 12/31/96.

I am somewhat more bullish on the next quarter for a number of reasons.

1. KM progression - I hope to see further announcements of KM related information that could result in a more bullish bias toward
this stock.

2. Royalty Revenues - As you mention, the lawsuit verdict can
become somewhat of a cash cow for Ampex. This could result in
higher earnings as well as extra R&D income for future products
and in refinements of existing product.

3. Sales of existing products - We are all anticipating
an increase in sales of the DIS/DCT product line.

The only variable that makes me nervous about Ampex is with all of the possibilities this company has to offer, then why is this stock so predictable ie., "short term pop ups" and then slowly drifting downward to lower lows, in terms of the stock price movement. I think it's very important for us to pay attention to any insider activity in the near term.
