I think two things got you here.

1) Auto Hide - If you right click on the toolbar, then left click "properties" you can select (check) the auto hide box.
This hides your toolbar until you drive your mouse pointer off the screen to where your toolbar is located.

2) As your daughter discovered, you can also relocate your toolbar to any side of your screen by left click and hold your mouse button on the toolbar, then roll your arrow (drag) to the edge of the screen you desire (bottom if you like) and release the left mouse button (drop).
