Lost in 99 percent of the education discussions on this board is the role of the parent.

I also went to an elementary school in the '50s and '60s (religious) with 300 kids and one principal. If I smarted off to a teacher, I'd get a whack across my mouth, then I might get another whack when I got home if my parents found out about it.

Doesn't work that way anymore. Whack a kid at school today, and he'll come back an hour later with a parent who wants to kick some school administrator's ass.

The reason we have more school administrators today than 30 years ago is because of necessity.

To reiterate: Schools haven't let parents down. Parents have let schools down.
