Samsung's Bargaining "Chip"
==========
"Samsung's development of its own 1X chipset will not only allow the company to save in royalties ordinarily paid to Qualcommm, but will also force Qualcomm to cut royalties for other Korean firms.."
MIC's game is clear.
It would be interesting to have detail on integrated capabilities.. MIDI, MPEG, MP3, QChat, USB, Bluetooth, IP, WAP, SSP, JAVA, 802.11, SIM/UIM, PureVoice, MMC, SD-Card, Digital Compass, GPS, BREW, evdo - or lack thereof. In addition, is it even data capabile - or voice only? How does ZIF erode low-end prospects? Would Samsung use their own chips if there is no benefit to the bottom line? And of course, simple functionality is still in question.
Also, curious that article references a Samsung GSMwCDMA chip for KT ICOM's dreamy 03 subsidized network - that will require cdma2000wCDMA ASICS. What's up? |
