The cruelty of children crosses gender lines; different, but equal. Not inherent, oddly. In the tribal group I lived with not long ago, it was absolutely nonexistent. No kid could have gotten away with it, in fact I can't even imagine one trying. Totally alien to the culture. This is, of course, a place where until recently boys of 8 would start sleeping at a sort of communal boys' dorm, under the supervision of the old men. Different, but interesting results.

I always had the Boy Scouts down in my mind as an organization sort of like little league, or most organized kids sports, reducing children to puppets acting out the fantasies of their parents.
