JAWS' Information Security Solutions Support E-Commerce Principles Released by Canadian Task Force

Working Group on Consumers and Electronic Commerce Address On-Line
Consumer Protection

CALGARY, Nov. 12 /CNW/ - JAWS Technologies Inc. (JAWZ: OTC-BB) announced
today its information security products and services can assist Canadian
businesses in establishing and maintaining consumer trust, which is essential
for the further growth of e-commerce. On Nov. 9, ``The Principles for
Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce: A Canadian Framework' was
released by a national working group, spearheaded by the Government of
Canada's Office of Consumer Affairs. The document brings information security
to the forefront of national business issues, and is available for review at
strategis.ic.gc.ca and can also be accessed through JAWS' website
at www.jawstech.com.
JAWS applauded this federal initiative and commented on the challenges
that are faced every day by its own corporate clients. ``This is a very
important initiative to the growth of secure e-commerce,' said Robert
Kubbernus, Chairman and CEO, JAWS Technologies. ``While there are many
proactive Canadian and international businesses that have already engaged JAWS
to secure their e-commerce systems, yet at this early stage of e-commerce,
even the slightest public perception that a company might have a security
problem, could impact long-term consumer confidence.'
In accordance with the many recommendations of this initiative, JAWS
concurs that further evolution of a business-driven climate whereby businesses
are encouraged to promote the development of their secure on-line financial
transaction systems, certified through regular security auditing programs will
contribute to greater consumer confidence. ``Having a secure e-commerce system
is a competitive advantage which should be promoted, and we can help
businesses turn nervous prospects into satisfied e-commerce customers,' said
Kubbernus.
JAWS provides secure e-commerce services primarily through its
Information Security Services Division, which involves Security Assessment;
Architecture; Implementation and Monitoring. ``Most information systems
administrators know that there are groups of organized hackers who attempt to
infiltrate e-commerce systems sometimes simply for the fun of it, and now more
frequently, for corporate espionage purposes.' Wherever the misuse of
consumer and financial information might be, JAWS has dedicated its business
to leading edge information security. ``New electronic hacking tools come
available on the Internet almost every day and this is a challenge that likely
only a hacker or a dedicated security professional can keep track of. In
fact, a recent InformationWeek Survey of 2,700 in-house IT professionals shows
that `lack of time' and `complexity of technology' are the two main barriers
to the implementation of greater information security measures,' said
Kubbernus.
JAWS Information Security Services Division is supplemented by the
Security Software Products Division which boasts the highest level of
encryption software available in the world. The current standard for
e-commerce transactions is 128-bit encryption, which has been broken by
hackers, and 512-bit encryption was also recently broken. JAWS' fast, easy to
use products for the desk-top, e-mail and for Palm(TM) connected organizers,
utilize 4096-bit encryption technology.
Kubbernus said, ``We believe that JAWS' security products and services
can allow Canadian businesses to implement the principles recommended by the
e-commerce working group, and we certainly commend them for their
leadership.'
