Aquila, Inc., an integrated electric utility company, engages in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in the United States. It also distributes natural gas, as well as engages in trading unregulated energy. As of December 31, 2005, the company served approximately 391,406 electricity customers in Colorado and Missouri; and approximately 508,543 gas customers in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. Aquila was founded in 1917 as Missouri Public Service Company and changed its name to UtiliCorp United, Inc. in 1985. Further, it changed its name to Aquila, Inc. in 2002. The company is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.
