I met a distant relative once who had emphysema, and his vocal cords had been removed due to cancer and replaced with a mechanical device. He smoked incessantly, and died a few months later from lung cancer. Yes, some people have a much harder time than others. Maybe it was easier for me because I had only been smoking for five years.
