MEMOREC - from their web site.
MEMOREC - Medical Molecular Research Cologne Stoffel GmbH - was founded in September 1997 by members of the University of Cologne, Germany. MEMOREC is a leading European neuroscience company focused on the discovery and validation of new drug target structures for Alzheimer's disease, stroke and brain tumors. It was the first German biogentech company to receive the governmentÿs BioRegio Award in December 1997. As part of the first round of financing (a total of DM 17.5 million, or approximately $10 million), MEMOREC received research grants totaling DM 7.1 million ($4.2 million) from the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology (BMBF) and the state government of North Rhine Westphalia. These grants are for scientific research programs on novel gene discovery technologies to find new drug target candidates and diagnostics in neuroscience. MEMOREC's research programs are supported by the members of the scientific board and a network of internationally renowned experts from institutes and clinics.
To investigate the molecular causes of these multifactorial diseases, MEMOREC uses various discovery and screening tools like SAGE TM, HT array technology PIQOR TM, bioinformatics and transgenic technologies as highly efficient integrated platform technologies. With SAGE TM researchers can generate comprehensive expression profiles (transcriptomes) in order to define subsets of genes that are potential diagnostic markers and/or therapeutic targets. Using the latest bioinformatic tools, new drug target and/or diagnostic candidates are preanalyzed, verified and ranked according to quality. Potential hits are functionally validated in MEMOREC's transgenic in vitro and in vivo settings. In collaboration with an engineering company, MEMOREC has developed a fully automatic nanodispenser for HT expression profiling. MEMORECÿs cDNA microarray technology offers the possibility of combining unknown and known novel genes for expression profile studies in different species, e.g. in humans, mice and rats. The robotÿs ingenious design permits not only the high-speed, fully automatic production of large quantities of high-quality arrays, but also the flexible production of customer-specific cDNA arrays (PIQOR TM).
MEMORECÿs technology platform enables partners in industry to set up discovery programs that are faster, more flexible, more cost effective and less risky. Customers are offered a whole range of individual services right up to the complete handling of highly complex projects geared to their own demands.
