The 50 Greatest Gadgets of the Past 50 Years

Some answers:

freerepublic.com

The Thermos. I know it only keeps things either hot or cold...but how do it know?
You can also cook in a thermos.

The valve which controls the flow of Cheese Whiz.

Post It Notes and White Out.

The remote car door control.

The Military Issue P-38 can opener.

Women. It is the greatest thing I've found since I was born.

Best gadget? Last 50 years? Easy. The personal computer.

Leatherman vs Swiss Army Knife?
no contest.
Swiss knives can't open bolts, or open into a pair of fullsized pliers.

Not sure if they are as new as 50 years, but I use vise grips about as much as any thing.
Two renowned physicists were debating the greatest human invention. One felt nuclear power, the other electricity. An old gentleman who was a janitor spoke up at that point from the back of the lab to tell them he thought it was the thermos. When one of the physicists asked how he could possible think that since it only kept things hot or cold, the old gentleman replied, "Yes...but how do it know?"

Hands down winner is the lock blade pocket knife.

How could they not include the TV Remote?

The first widely used TV remote control had four buttons (power, volume, channel up, channel down) but no batteries; press a button, and a tiny hammer inside the remote would strike an aluminum rod, transmitting an ultrahigh-frequency tone to control the set. The Space Command ruled the living room for more than 25 years before being replaced by remotes using infrared technology. And thus a nation of couch potatoes was born.

I've always got to vote for running water and indoor plumbing. Twenty years of military life makes you quite selective when it comes to Life's Little Luxuries. ;)

The Blow Dryer

Clumping kitty litter. It's a beautiful thing.

Four simple letters: H - T - M - L

"Cordless drills and laser levels have got my vote!!"

The "undo" function
