ORBITAL: Orbital Software and Novell collaborate on new digitalme technology M2 PRESSWIRE-9 April 1999-ORBITAL: Orbital Software and Novell collaborate on new digitalme technology (C)1994-99 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD * Orbital to Work Jointly on Enhancing Novell's New Directory-Enabled Technology For Personal Control of Identities on the Internet
Orbital Software, a leading provider of people profiling and expertise matching enterprise software, has announced it will collaborate with Novell on its new digitalme (TM) technology and help create open standards for controlling personal information on the Internet.
Leveraging Novell Directory Services (TM), digitalme allows users to better control the use of personal information, or "digital identities", on the Internet. A flexible software architecture enables users to create, personalise and manage their digital identities, giving control over what information is shared and with whom. Orbital will support digitalme in its leading Organik Persona Server technology, allowing access to dynamic, self-learning profiles of users interests and expertise to be controlled using the power of digitalme and Novell Directory Services (NDS). Orbital will also work with Novell to make its Organik KnowledgeWare product digitalme-enabled, allowing the creation of trusted expert communities for sharing knowledge across the Internet and extranets.
Orbital's people profiling and expertise matching technology effortlessly captures and organises information normally existing outside the boundaries of traditional data structures, building digital identities that are stored in a centralised knowledge-base.
"digitalme empowers users to take control of their network identities while increasing their ability to take advantage of the opportunities and conveniences that the Internet offers," said Mike Sheridan, vice president of strategic businesses at Novell. "As a leader in developing online communities, Orbital is ideally positioned to build upon the capabilities of digitalme."
"Trust and identity are key for enabling true knowledge sharing in online communities and digitalme provides an enabling technology for building these trusted communities," stated Kevin Dorren, CEO of Orbital Software. "We are delighted to be working with Novell on the digitalme technology and playing an important role in defining applications that have such wide reaching implications for online knowledge communities and the Internet in general."
About Orbital Orbital Software, a privately held company, is the leading provider of network-level people profiling and expertise matching enterprise software. Orbital's software maps a company's experience base automatically, building personas for employees and storing this knowledge in a centralised experience-base, accessible both by users and other applications. As this resource is used, the application dynamically updates personas to accurately track expertise and interests, uniquely storing this tacit information for re-use within the organisation.
Orbital was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in Palo Alto, with the software development team based in Scotland. Additional information about Orbital Software and its complete product line can be accessed on the World Wide Web at orbitalsw.com.
