Exports hit new high

------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the end of November, Shanghai registered exports totaling $13.779 billion, up 13.8 per cent from one year ago, according to a working meeting yesterday.
The exports have been soaring at a two-digit growth rate in the past consecutive 11 months, it said.
Yesterday's meeting urged the local foreign trade sector to make a final sprint to fulfill the $14.5 billion of exports scheduled for 1997.
This year, the city's foreign trade has been characterized by the following:
1. The processing trade has been leading the exports. It took up a 61.25 per cent share of the city's total exports in the first 11 months.
2. The exports of foreign-funded ventures have continued growing. During the January-November period, foreign-invested enterprises exported $7.376 billion worth of goods, up 8.9 per cent over the 1996 figure and accounting for 35.54 per cent of the city's total.
3. The structure of exported commodities has changed. Medium and primary products accounted for 6.9 per cent of the total exports, down 6.9 per cent from the previous year; industrial integrated products occupied a share of 93.1 per cent, up 1.69 per cent; electromechanical goods took up 31.55 per cent, a rise of 5.44 percentage points.
