Applying simplistic formulas only gets you to first base. After that it has to be good old fashioned ananlysis.

Brings you back to the question of what are true earnings? Reported earnings are pure fiction. They do not account for investments in new businesses especially if the investment is in intellectual property as opposed to investment in plant and machinery. Trimble has been reinvesting it's very handsome profits in the Land survey business in the agri, constr, aerospace etc businesses.
