To All:
While researching another stock, I found the following announcement from Time Warner. It looks like Video on Demand is going to finally make it past the trial stage!
STAMFORD, Conn., April 23 (Reuter) - Time Warner Inc said on Wednesday that, encouraged by strong demand for interactive movies at its Orlando, Fla., network, Time Warner Cable soon will issue a request for proposals for software and hardware to support video on demand.
"Our experience with the Full Service Network (in Orlando) confirms that video on demand, particularly for movies, has strong customer appeal and will be a powerful business," said Mike Hayashi, vice president of advanced technology.
Time Warner will seek proposals for software and hardware to support video on demand through the Pegasus system. Hayashi said the company wants to come up with cost-effective technology that can make interactive television a reality for its customers by the end of the decade.
The request for proposals is for an architecture including servers, disk storage, transmission equipment and transport components, Time Warner said.
Responses from vendors are due by the end of May.
Time Warner Cable has 12.3 million customers in 37 states."
Does anyone think that Ampex might place a bid ? I noticed on most Ampex news releases, Time Warner is listed as one of their major customers. |
