Hi Todd: you lost me, what is the Posix "personality" ?
Actually, it was me who said that :)
Tandem was, until recently based on a proprietary operationg system named Guardian. Posix is a standard which attempts to define basic operating system functionality. Posix is based primarily on the common elements of the different flavors of Unix, but specifically is *not* limited to running on Unix. Having an operating system that every hacker wannabee doesn't have the source code to is a major advantage of being Posix-Compliant, but not using Unix.
Tandem rewrote their operating system to provide a "kernel" which provides the low-level control of the hardware, and then depending on the customer's requirements, the operating system appears to be Guardian or the Posix "personality". BBNnet been doing most of the work, do They use a Tandem system ?
BBNPlanet's area of expertise is network management. The Stratus systems did all of the functions inside the AOL computer room (email, Usenet newsgroups, chat, content areas)... That is the area of AOL which is being migrated to Tandem, based on the information I have (I am a Tandem contract programmer/consultant, but my information is 2nd hand) I have read that Tandem has a UCC filing on leased equipment at AOL, which would seem to confirm this. |
