The allies knew this because they had cracked the German military radio codes. << Perhaps it was still possible to nip the invasion in the bud had the Panzers rolled into action on Day 1. Just my humble opinion. >> Could be. The advantage is with the defenders in the early stages of an amphibious landing. That's why the allies went to such lengths to keep the Germans focussed on Calais.
